Q-Tip - The Renaissance (Review)

Q-Tip - The Renaissance

When seeing this album, I didn't think much of it. Honestly I didn't listen to a single song till I heard the entire album. Well good I didn't sleep cause this album is banging. Tip's lyricism hasn't diminished any in my opinion. I'm a big Tribe fan mainly cause of tip. So I was quite hesitate to hear this album cause it might put some tarnish on Tip's career. Well I guess Kamaal had his polishing wipe out on this album. Honestly I don't know if he wrote these verses years ago or early this year. I know some might disagree or criticize but there isn't a major misstep this entire album. Beginning with Johnny Is Dead, some ill keys and matching kicks. Tip rides the beat phenomenally like only he can. Then followed by sample heavy Won't Trade. The true highlight of this album in my opinion is We Fight (Love) as Raphael shows his amazing vocals while Tip describes love as many of us might know. From that point on, the album takes a step further into it's excellence. Dance On Glass has Tip gracefully showcasing his brilliant lyricism. Next Norah Jones blesses us with her powerful vocal prowess. The D'Angelo asissted joint reminds me of the old Native Tongue days. This album feels complete and not rushed. Thats what seperates this album from many others this year. Definitely part of the top 15. But will it stand the test of time is the real question above this album. Not too sure if it will but I'll continue to play the hell out of it till.

Handling My Biz Like Markie

One of my favorite groups comes with this smooth, soulful joint entitled "Handle My Biz". I love K. High. I hope this means the new album is coming soon...but hey I'll take what I can get. Heres the dirty and clean version of the song so enjoy. (all courtesy of Ill digitz)

Remind Me In 8 Days...

8 Days since I last posted something...lol. Not alot has happened though. But I would like to take this chance and tell you that The Knux will probably be the next big thing in music. The Hollywood By Way Of New Orleans group is signed on Interscope and their new album is the shit. I've been bumping it all last week. But I'm definitely ordering it and it releases Oct 28. To be honest alot of comparsions could be made about this group but none should be applied because it would only limit their potential in people's mind since they'll hold them to the golden standard set by their predecessors. Anyway I feeling this album and highly recommend it. Also recommend checking out 14kt's new album which is bananas. I ordered it off iTunes so unfortunately no stream but preview it and you'll see. "Without Dilla (Donut 4 Dilla)" is whoa....on some classic Dilla ish.

Yahzarah's Prelude

So I was just searching iTunes and I find out the beautiful songstress released an project call The Prelude EP. So I couldn't resist so I bought it. If you heard The Minstrel Show you've heard the wonderful sounds of her voice. But you've probably remember the name from her collaboration on the Foreign Exchange's Connected album. Well she back in full effect prepping for her next album, The Ballad of Purple St. James. Yahzarah gives us a little piece of magic to hold us off till then. The Prelude EP is a excellent introduction to her music for new fans but its a wonderful showing and her most hardcore fan will be greatly satisfied. Yahzarah deliver a duet with Raheem Devaughn and frequent collaborator Phonte. This EP honestly is nothing short of amazing and I highly recommended you check it out as you won't regret throwing a 8 bucks for it....

Rock N Ruck...

So I was headed out to the imfamous PV versus Grambling game out here in Dallas. So since I know certainly type of music can get my woman and her two friends to hush. I put in Heltah Skeltah in for my one homie (2 dudes and 3 girls in my Honda Civic that been on beast mode since my last tune up, lol). Anyway this was my third time hearing the whole LP through and its just now settling. Well since they annouced this album back when Jesus Price Superstar came out. I had this pre-conceived idea on how this album would be, RAW HARDCORE LYRICALLY FUNNY ISH...

(lol, watch Buckshot get DOWN!!...oh and Im also happy to hear that Buck is out the hospital...a week late but im still happy.)

Well I was right...I put this on the best of the year list on the left but as far as group releases go, shis is one of the best. Sean Price killed that shit with ease as Rock bounced back from a meh "album/mixtape or whatever you want to call" attempt. Rock is probably on the more underrated of the group but he is as good or better then Sean...I wish they put some Black Milk in the boards and a guest verse from Guilty...but no matter this is great LP for anyone who just wanna wyle out to some hard drums and hard flows....

Everything Is Heltah Skeltah

Just A Stone's Throw Away

"Green card wack MCs that talk foreign" - Guilty Simpson

So ever since I listened to Madlib's new album. I've been bumping that, Ode to The Ghetto, The Shining, Jay Loves Japan, Champion Sound, Liberation, Madvillany and other ish from Stones Throw fam. But finally I think I've reach the full appreciation of their music. The more I examine I see that they have abstract but unique flows over some absolute amazing production. Raw Shit by Jaylib featuring Talib Kweli is some epic shit. Honestly I'm shocked that I don't hear that much about Champion Sound. The Shining has always been a long time favorite. Individual tracks are those tracks from Donuts that MF Doom, Guilty, Ghost, Tip & Kweli jumped on. Sniper Elite/Murder Goons is a great mix. Maybe all this is in preparation to the new MF Doom album supposely coming out later this month. Hopefully but not looking too good but anyway I hope we get some more Stones Throw before the year closes out. Supposedly Guilty Simpson & Madlib got a EP coming out called O.J. Simpson EP....lol (OJ = Otis Jackson = Madlib). So I'll go back to listening to my Stones collection and enjoy...

Spotlight Albums: Tommorrow Already/Picture This.../WLIB AM: King Of The Wigflip

Now On - Tommorrow Already
Many of you have seen me sing the praise of Now On. But with their newest album I think they have surpassed my expections. Tommorrow Already is a collection soulful and lyrical music. Not just talking about bling or how they hate those with bling. Now On makes creativity music like the kind their parents listened to. See many don't recoginize that the bitching about how dead hip hop is just isnt cool. Make some good hip hop music and prove it is. Well Now On doesn't even touch the subject but they prove that it isn't dead. Well as always when Haircut blesses us with his creativity sounds we must point out just how talent he is. Well through out this record Haircut stays consistent with the majority of songs he produced. Also featured on this album is Jake One & Atsronote. Arguably one of the best producers out period....Now On lyrically keep it on point. I was totally satisfied after listening to this album but pen point to certain tracks it hard so I just leave up to you....cop Tommorrow Already nuff said...

The Answer

Marbles

DJ KO - Picture This...
Now I was impressed by the line-up on S1's album or Jake One but the lineup on DJ KO's album has to be the sickest. Would you ever think you'd see Torae & O.C. on one track over some Ayatollah production? The album opens up with one of my favorite rappers Silent Knight and underrated East spitting some dope shit over 9th Wonder's thumping drums. The album has the best of the best MCs over the best of the best producers. But the are standouts are Silent Knight who destroyed ever track he was on while Emilio Rojas (Raks-One) freely unleashes vicious multis and metaphors. Then after the killer Elzhi/Royce/Supastition track you hear one of the dopest samples then some "loud drums and crazy loops" courtesy of Illmind. Analogic is perhaps the most impressive artist to touch this album. Seriously don't sleep on Analogic..But special thanks to DJ KO for putting together such a great album.

Get 'Em f/ Silent Knight, Skyzoo & Emilio Rojas (Produced by ILLmind)

Mind of a Genius f/ Chaundon, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Finale & Sean Boog (Produced by Analogic)

Madlib - WLIB AM: King Of The Wigflip
Its Madlib. He's great. This album is great. Following suit of Jackson Conti's Sujinho, Beat Konducta Volume 5 and Madvillany 2 remixes. The production on this album is epic. I was reading on Stone Throws board and people were down this album. Some people are just too nic picky and only song with subpar production was Murs joint..which sorry Lib, sounds like some simple FL Studio drum pattern but besides that. This album is crazy. Guilty Simpson killed his two joints. Go! is heavy well Blow The Horn On Em is Guilty beasting...I like the interludes and the instrumentals sprinkled over the album. Madlib even pulls out the rhyme book on a few joints. So stop all the downing of Madlib just cop the album...

Smoke Break

Take That Money feat. Oh No & Roc C

A Rock The Dub Che Grand Petition

Finally some progress but here is your chance to support Che. This is a petition on releasing this album or not. Seriously sign it if you want possibly one of the best albums of the years. And I'm saying that after hearing about 6 tracks off it. click the pic or here to sign....

Verse Of The Day: Great Day

Artist: Madvillain (MF Doom and Madlib)
Album: Madvillainy
Song: Great Day

Great Day - Madvillain (Madlib + MF Doom)

[MF Doom]
Looks like it's gonna be a great day today
To get some fresh air like a stray on a straightaway
Hey you, got a light? nah, a Bud Light
Early in the morning, face crud from like a mud fight
Looky here, it's just the way the cookie tear
Prepare to get hurt and mangled like Kurt Angle rookie year
The rocket scientist, with a pocket wine list
Some even say he might need some puss-psychiatrist
Doom, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Yes, but why would the darn thing be wandering?
She's like a foundling, barely worth fondling
My posse's on raw really momma I want to sing
Mad plays the bass like the race card
Villain on the case to break shards and leave her face scarred
Groovy dude, not to prove to be rude
But this stuff is like what you might put on movie food
Uh, what is jalapenas
Get it like a whuppin' when you holla at your seniors
Dolla he can overhear the hashish vena
He just came from over there, the grass is greener
Last wish, I wish I had two more wishes
And I wish they fixed the door to the matrix's mad fridges
Spit so many verses sometimes my jaw twitches
One thing this party could use is more..
Booze, put yourself in your own shoes
And stay away from all those pairs of busted Tims you don't use
He only keep 'em to decorate
If you wanna peep him select a date
And bring a deep check like checkmate
I kid you not, on the dotted line signed
Ever since a minor, kids considered him some kind of Einstein
On a diamond mine grind, she was dumb fine
But not quite the type that you might want to wine and dine
Couldn't find a pen, had to think of a new trick
This one he wrote in cold blood with a toothpick
On second thought it's too thick
His assistant said: "Doom, you sick" he said: "True blue acoustics"
Psycho, his flow is drowned in Lowry seasoning
With micropower he's sound and right reasoning
Easy as Pi, three point one four
One more one false move and they're done for

This is just for Anonymous. You welcome dog..thanks for checking the site.

Got Me Stuck In The Friend Zone

So more and more I've been feeling TiRon. A while back I posted his mixtape " Handshakes & Pounds" but ever since he dropped that he seems to be on a constant grind. I too sure if he dropping a new tape, EP or album but the recent tracks he's leaked are dope as hell. I can easily relate to his music as I've used a wingman, threw my money and been stuck in the "Friend" zone. So I feel his song usually quoting him atleast for a hour while at work to pass the time. He's got a real laid back flow and unlike others TiRon probably live his muss so you can sense the passion in the lyrics..and to top off the desert of great music, he got some great production to flow over...

WE WIN!! YOU MAD!!

DALLAS COWBOYS - 27
(3-0)

GREEN BAY PACKERS - 16
(2-1)

It's Sunday....

So as I take a break from watching football and doing my homework. I search for what albums I should buy with my upcoming paycheck. So I already ordered Blu & Mainframe's Johnson&Jonson LP from iTunes and DJ KO's Picture This from UGHH.com... so I decide to download Killah Priest And Chief Kamachi's Beautiful Minds...talking about straight fire...I'm definitely copping that one...also I listened to Rapheal Saadiq's new album "The Way I See It". That now that guy has some serious talent. I remember Mos Def shouting and praising him on Hi-Teknology 2....so Imma drop two songs from each my two personal favorites and suggest you cop these two albums...

All Hail

Illest feat. Planet Asia & DJ Rhettimatic

Lets Take A Walk

Big Easy

I think Blu's new album is a definitely contender for best lyricism of the year...

and next week is gonna be banging...Murs, T.I., Madlib, Term and Heltah Skeltah....can't wait to cop...I can't feel that Hundred already out my pocket for those...

and look out for a massive review post from DJ KO, J&J, Madlib & Now On..possibly more..

Verse Of The Day: Beautiful Girl

Artist: Cunninlynguists
Album: A Piece of Strange
Song: Beautiful Girl

[Verse 2: Deacon]
Yeah, spread them legs jane, I need a head change
Coochie hairs flame colored, sweet lil red thangs
She riddles every area of my brain with deep tickles
Mary, married her, carries my pain? nope
An angel came to me one night chillin
Said "I won't change you, just tame who's within that Villian"
I said "cool, lets lay up with the stars for a minute"
Next I know we break up roaches from cigars
We done finished
Jane doing things that made me search my soul
I's a young one, she's an old freak that cuts slow
Leave her? Right now you got a hellafied no
I guess I needs her, that double edged ledge cuts throats
I love the please-her, or pleasure, whatever call it liesure
You call her a crutch, y'all hush, I call her 'Retha
Undressin her, loving the resin upon fingertips
Its over when I roll me a Fat Lady
Now sing it bitch

Shadows....

Here's a new cut from the upcoming Blue Sky Black Death & Jean Grae's collabo album "Evil Jeanius" I really don't know much about this album. I initially thought BSBD just remixed 9th's beats from Jeanius but after hearing this song in which the lyrics aren't similar to any on Jeanuis. I guess I was wrong...but if you recognize the lyrics shout out cause I wanna know whats up....

Blue Sky Black Death & Jean Grae - Shadows Forever

Verse Of The Day: So Amazing

Artist: Termanology
Album: So Amazing / Lo IQ 12"
Song: So Amazing

Who you know makes in a turn, riddle me this
If you don't say Rakim, you better say Kiss
Styles P
Kool G or Pac
Anybody else, I put 'em up in the box
They say
Lyrically, I'm the new AZ
Cause if I really wanted to, I could keep up with Nas
Term is like Earth, Wind & Fire
Rims and tires
But you can't ask people, they buy ya
So I'm the flyest sire of this side of Elmyra
I'll walk past papayas and into the fire
I'm
Chillin' with Mya
Crushin' Mariah
While I'm, fuckin' with Tyra, you fuckin' the virii
I got
Latino respect like Carlito
Since
Way back with Stretch and Babido
I'm in the lab, it's just me and Primo
The ghost of James Brown and the soul of Chris Rios

Black Milk - Tronic

(September 17, 2008) Brooklyn, NY- 25-year old Black Milk, the accomplished producer, MC, and vanguard of Detroit's rising hip-hop scene will be releasing his third solo album TRONIC on October 28, 2008 through Fat Beats Records.

Produced entirely by Black Milk and featuring only three guest verses on the entire album (from Pharoahe Monch, Royce Da 5'9", and Sean Price), TRONIC shows Black Milk flexing his solo production and emcee skills through tracks that are more expressive and daring than his previous works. The album is a departure from the soul-sample driven sounds of 2007's Popular Demand, as Black employs more live instrumentation, embraces the use of both vintage and modern synthesizers, and explores more orchestral song structure. Without abandoning his trademark Detroit hip-hop sound, he shows growth as an artist while clearly attempting to raise the bar as a pioneer of future hip-hop music. The album also features a short list of diverse players and vocalists including Dwele, rising YouTube star and new Universal Motown signee Colin Munroe, and the legendary DJ Premier who each add their signature creative nuances and textures to Black Milk's sound.

In only a few short years, Black Milk quickly has become one of underground hip-hop's foremost ambassadors. Realizing his vast reservoir of talent, both independent and mainstream artists looked to Black to give their albums a raw underground sound. Black has since produced and appeared on tracks for an impressive roster of hip hop artists including Genius/GZA, Busta Rhymes, Pharoahe Monch, Kidz in the Hall, Kardinal Offishall, Guilty Simpson, and Strange Fruit Project, among others. Most recently, Black released two albums, The Set Up with Fat Ray, Black Milk Presents Caltroit with Bishop Lamont. Black also handed nearly all the production on elZhi's The Preface, an album that is making many critics' Top 10 lists for 2008 and bringing serious attention to Detroit's music scene. Black also produces and rhymes as a member of the ground Random Axe with Sean Price and Guilty Simpson and will release a full-length album in early 2009. TRONIC will be released on CD, vinyl, and digitally on October 28, 2008.

It's the return of the gangsta thanks ta'
Them niggas that's on that blow
that run up in yo' crib which contains
your lady and an 8 month old
child to raise plus you true blue 'bout this music but
they do not want to hear it because they'd
rather be bouncin' and shootin' and killin' and bouncin'
and shit get down

Return of the gangsta thanks ta'
them niggas that thank [think] you soft
and say y'all be gospel rappin'
but they be steady clappin' when you talk about
bitches & switches & hoes & clothes & weed
let's talk about time travelin' rhyme javelin
somethin' mind unravelin' get down

Return of the gangsta thanks ta'
them niggas who got them kids
who got enough to buy an ounce
but not enough to bounce them kids to the zoo
or to the park so they grow up in the dark never
seein' light so they end up being like yo' sorry ass
robbin' niggas in broad ass daylight get down

Return of the gangsta thanks ta'
them niggas that get the wrong impression of expression
Then the question is Big Boi what's up with Andre?
Is he in a cult? Is he on drugs? Is he gay?
When y'all gon' break up? When y'all gon' wake up?
