More News on "Rising Down"

Rising Down, the eighth studio album by The Roots, isn't due for release until April 29. However, Entertainment Weekly managed to sneak a preview of 12 tracks from the album and get brief descriptions from Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson and Traiq "Black Thought" Trotter [full article HERE]. Based on the previews, the album picks up where Game Theory left off. While expected contributions from Q-Tip, Lupe Fiasco and Common haven't panned out yet, Mos Def, Styles P, and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy appear, in addition to longtime Roots collaborators Malik B. and Dice Raw.

?uestlove will also make an appearance in Malcolm Lee's film Soul Men. The movie, which also features Samuel L. Jackson, Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes, is centered on two rival musicians who are forced to unite when a mutual friend (played by John Legend) dies. Soul Men is currently shooting in Shreveport, Memphis and Los Angeles, and is slated for an October release.

?uestlove tells Indyweek.com that his frustration with various directors while serving as music supervisor for other projects led to him moving back in front of the camera for the first time since a cameo in the 2002 film Brown Sugar. However, the unofficial Roots spokesman doesn't feel he's out of his element, stating, "Since it's a musical film, I won't be straying too far afield in terms of my role."

Thoughts On Finale & Spier 1200 Present: Develop

When you hear the words,Finale and Spier 1200,You most likely don't think of music,Let alone Hip-Hop, But this collaboration of MC(Finale) and Producer(Spier 1200) has brought us a very laid back,Chill album that is rare and needed in our day and age by the name of Develop.

Released in 2007,I just got around to listening to this about a week ago,My opinion that '07 was a great year in Hip-Hop just got elevated, With beats very sample-oriented,You can't help but think that samples are becoming the basis for that Mid-west sound.

Develop is easy on the ears,Spier 1200 produces beats that beg for a gifted MC to tell a story over them and Finale just so happens to be a gifted MC,With his flow that grabs your attention and lyrics that reassure you that your listening to somebody with intelligence.

If that ain't enough to make you want to listen to this,Develop has a nice list of guest spots including,Elzhi,Supastition,Wordsworth, And Invincible among others.Finale holds his grounds on the mic even with this much talent featuring on tracks.

Without making this too long,I'll leave you my closing words.

Closing Words:Develop is a laid-back,Well put together album that you can put on while chilling and having a nice cold beer. Don't sleep on it.

But hey,Why listen this to a lowly Islander,Here's some tracks that stood out IMO...

In The Rotation

Through The Wind - Nicolay & Kay feat. Stokley Williams

So far, my favorite song from the LP I've been anticipating for a while. Time:Line lived up to the hype & surpassed my execptions. Last time i felt this way bout a album was when i first Pure(Buff1), Hunger Strike(Silent Knight) Of Gods & Girls(Mr. J) & Below The Heavens(Blu & Exile). My fav underground albums of 07 which i hold all at high esteem. So you know this song must have something special. Filled with metaphors, singing, similes & a essential concept. Stokley really put it down on this song. But the singing was outshined by Nicolay's prod which was outshined by Kay's lyricism.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858680-6b3

My BoyBlu - Blu & Exile
Tho all the versions on the Net are of bad quality. This song is great & probably with time & mastering will be more liked than my fav Blu song, Blu Colla Workers. But classic Blu so nothing much to say except i hope he drops a mastered version of this song on a LP or EP. Keep it up Blu.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858681-024

Momma Can You Hear Me? - Talib Kweli
This song means so much. Supposely leaked single of Kweli's upcoming album, Prison Of Conscious. Kweli praises his mom on this joint days after the Death Of Kanye's mom late last year. Maybe a tribute to Donda? Nevertheless this song is great. Kweli has alot of side projects beside his solo coming out so check for those.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858682-576

Life Of The Party - Little Brother feat. Carlitta Durand
One of my favorite LB songs. Fun & soulful at the same time is hard for alot of artist. But LB does it so effortlessly as they description their experience with at club & the haters. Pretty Funny hopefully LB will drop something to soothe our pain from their MEH! 3rd album attempt.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858734-eb6

Littlest Things - Kidz In The Hall feat. Lily Allen
I love Kidz In The Hall. Majority of the things they do are great. Publicly supporting Obama & his efforts. Droppin this Valetine mixtape is so un expected I don't think anyone saw it coming besides Naledge & Double-O. Well, I'm feeling the whole vibe of this song. Lily Allen is a great singer who doesn't get much praise. Major props & luv for her.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858683-b47

Boombox - (Radio) Raheem Jamal & Raydar Ellis
Boombox mafucka turn it up! The first song I heard from Raheem and was impressed. The scary thing is that this might be one of the weakest songs on his album respectively. So that means that his album is amazing. Seriously ppl that praise Lupe, Blu & etc...sleep on this album. Kinda sad but hopefully I'll change that soon.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858730-a50

Saved- Saigon & Joe Scudda
I'll tell ya now! The main reason i like this song is the Snoop Dogg sample. Those the verse arent that bad. I expected better from both Joe & Sai but decent effort at the least. Anyway the concept of the song is great. The hook is my favorite part and the most appealing. The Background humming through out the song gives it a soulful feel.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858731-227

Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - Lauryn Hill
The bonus joint off Lauryn's classic album is possibly my favorite. The whole soulful feel of it just touches my heart every listen. I could imagine this song being performed in concert. I has a awesome vibe. I love it.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858732-145

Iron Galaxy - Cannibal Ox
Classic! Majority of the people in America have heard this song. Either in a movie, Video game or TV. This song is lyrically potent & the production from El-P is phenomenal. To me there is no weak part of the song. Seriously Classic!
http://www.divshare.com/download/3858733-3b8

The Light - CunninLynguists ft. Club Dub
So soulful this song is. Though its most background singing and live instrumentals. It makes you sing along as they say "If You wanna be heal then you have to reveal the truth". Great message i think. Then about half way through Natti solidifies the song and his membership in CunninLynguists. Production is top notch as usually with Kno.

My Thoughts

The Lady of my dreams, as ill as she screams, I'll never let her open my eyes. Yup, random but genius. Seriously I think this LP went over everybody's head even mine. Walz put it down lyrically. He favorite release from him so far. And The production was great. The best song on this album be the album itself since it flows together so well. Vomit Chorus features Doom ripping this hard beat. Also featured on this LP is Wordsworth, Vast Aire, Immortal Tech, Sean Price & dozens & dozens more. Seriously this LP took me by the throar and i enjoyed every second. With wild & random lyrics that make totally no sense while simultaneously making perfect sense, this is a great album. Thank Walz for the breif explanation of complete cacophonous rhymes.

"That was the realest yawn, step up, make a move, ill kill ya illest pawn"

"I'm gangsta i hold doors for ladies, im gangsta i love all the babies"

Congrats To Dwight Howard For Marvelous Performance at the NBA Dunk Contest

20080216-dunk.jpg
“I - take off the blazer losen up the tie,Step inside the booth Superman is alive”

Dwight Howard made a few jokes about his dunk contest preparation.

It was a little funny. But it was not light-hearted.

A year ago, after losing, he was clearly down -- the victim of a misunderstood, and under-appreciated sticker dunk.

So he didn't go crazy. He went corporate. To become Superman, first he spent a year as Clark Kent. He brainstormed. He workshopped. He field-tested. He focus-grouped with his teammates. As final preparation, he even abstained from candy and music for two weeks, to give himself a razor-sharp mental edge.

He recreated the razzle-dazzle of the ABA, with the goal orientation of an MBA.

Take the entire history of the dunk contest as evidence that coming up with creative new dunks is time-consuming and difficult. Never before has anyone come up with two truly inventive dunks in one competition. Howard? He came up with three.Dwight Howard

That involves no small amount of effort.

His first dunk involved passing the ball to himself off the back of the backboard, catching it in mid-air, and flushing it with his left hand while his head lingered somewhere out of bounds. That one, he says, he has been working on for two years.

For another dunk, he started with the ball balanced on a mini-hoop. A reporter had a great idea: since Howard had been denied the opportunity to raise the rim to twelve feet, had he considered starting that dunk with the mini-hoop at twelve feet, to prove his hops?

Howard had field-tested it, and didn't think the resulting dunk resulted in enough flair.

The "self-alley?" He had tried it out in front of enough friends that their texts, calls, and emails were enough to convince him to include it.

Just keep trying him. No one had out-prepared Dwight Howard, which is precisely why he won.

The dunks on this night were off-the-charts inventive. Regular dunks -- feats of athleticism -- were not contenders at all. For instance, when Kyle Lowry ran the baseline, lobbed the ball off the foam padding side of the basket support, only to have it caught and flushed spectatularly by a trailing Rudy Gay, the audience largely shrugged. Tonight we were spoiled by the likes of Gerald Green dunking as he blew out a candle stuck into the top of a cupcake resting atop the rim.

Howard, for his part, had four well-executed dunks with outside-the-box creativity.

Just a few days ago, ESPN's Scoop Jackson theorized that this weekend would feature the last dunk contest ever. And in the leadup to tonight's dunk contest, it seemed he might be right. As Howard himself noted, the mood was not all that electric as the dunkers emerged onto the court. Last night, at the D-League's dunk contest, Mike Taylor of the Idaho Stampede threw down a few that had everyone on the sidelines saying that he could win at the big show. There were even empty seats in this house at the outset of tonight's dunk contest, which certainly was not the case in contest's heyday, when the likes of Michael Jordan and Vince Carter were wowing the fans.

"I think," Howard said, with his work behind him and a trophy beside him, "the dunk contest is back."

Braille - The IV Edition dropping April 15!!!

“The IV” (pronounced I-VEE) represents the roman numeral four (fourth album), as well as a slew of other acronyms and metaphors used to describe the vision behind the music. The record plays like a celebration soundtrack touching on a wide variety of topics including marriage, death, temptation, and growth. Within the “celebration” theme Braille pairs himself up with a different producer for each track.

What's Next Two Thousand & Eight? (Part 1)

LMNO & Kev Brown - Selective Hearing (The Beat Tape)
The return of the classic MC/DJ combo is refreshing to see. Especially in this time of creative drought in music. Anywho when i first heard about this combo of the Cali MC, LMNO & Maryland producer Kev Brown. I wasn't too excited. Just thought its another album with familar artist but nothing special. That was till I heard the music video of "Who's That". That song & video is great. Seriously didn't except the two to blend and mix very good but LMNO kinda changed his flow and tempo to match Kev's incredible productions.

Guilty Simpson - Ode To The Ghetto
Guilty Simpson, Damage beyond word's descriptions! Simpson is a beast. I've been patiently waiting for this album for half a year. Last year Guilty dropped some very notable verses. His verse on Buff1's "Surpreme" & Percee P's "Watch Your Step"topped many list's of 07.. With production from Madlib, Oh No, Black Milk & Mr. Porter. This album's musically stand top is undisputed. Also featuring Sean Price & The Almighty Dreadnaughts, this album is sure to be a remember able release.

Kidz InThe Hall - The In Crowd
Coming off the recent success of their album/mixtape with Mick Boogie called "The Detention LP". And also having a song called "Work To Do" off that project promoted by the Obama Campaign & even featured on Obama's myspace. Kidz In The Hall seems to have all the pieces in place. So with that said, They are releasing their sophomore effort, which hopefully won't suffer from the sophomore slump. Recently they released their track listing to their new project "The In Crowd" and out of 13 tracks only 5 are collaboration-free. No don't get me wrong. I've been waiting for Kidz In The Hall to collab with other artist that held water, but this is ridiculous. But I won't judge yet to i hear the entire album & band.

Braille - The IV Edition
Not much to say about this particular album. This will probably be for first fully heard Braille album. I've heard good things about him so far and also some misc. song. But what really drew me to this album was the production credits and his association with Ohmega Watts & Othello which the 3 make the group called "The Lightheaded". The production will feature Oh No, Mr.J.Medeiros, Ohmega Watts, S1, Kno & Murdock from Panacea. He has also released a .single called The IV & the B-side features the song "CounterAttack" Feat. Theory Hazit. Now seeing that the other 2 Lightheaded crew members (Othello & Ohmega Watts) released superb & marvelous albums. Hopefully Braille will follow suit

My Thoughts

This album grows on me every time I hear a song from it. The brilliance of the concepts & lyrics were mostly over looked even by me. This is one of my HOJ album excluding LB & 9th's LPs. Truthfully I think this is probably the 3 or 4 best album of 07 which means alot since there was so much competition. Anyway alot of people complained about the album's hooks & chorus and how lousy they were. But to me I think they seemed essential. Like Powershift, if there was just a sampled hook. It wouldnt have the same prowess. Plus samples are over done & overatted. I'm into live instrumentations as of lately. But Median proved himself on this album and that he just not a guest spot artist. Major props to Median for making the dopest slept on album of 07.

In The Rotation

And You Say - Tanya Morgan feat. Che Grande
This track is great. That new School hype with some old school funk. This joint is classic in my eyes when speaking about Tanya Morgan. Everyone delivers a great verse with the most noticable being Von Pea's. This joint is produced by Von Pea himself.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3569033-88b

Powershift - Median
Median is probably one of the most unique artist to be revealed from the NC. Lyrically he can easily hang with Phonte but he has his own style that is kinda indescribable. But even with the loss of words for Median you can still call him dope. Dude's album is equally as dope. Every track had its own meaning & message. Powershift is my favorite track of his lastest release. To me symbolizing the shift of hip hop music's aim from its current money hungry ways to its orignal meaning as the art of the people that loved & crafted it.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3741426-c78

Rise - Strange Fruit Project feat. Little Brother
I never realized how great this song and the album it belongs to was till recently...The production is great with all credits going to S1 of course. Big Pooh & Phonte share a verse basically as they deliver a little miracle in the form of words to the song. The hook is catchy, soulful & Brilliant. Hell its a brillant song in general. Expect to hear some ol Maliz promotion of SFP soon especially since reppin my home state.TEXAS STAND UP!
http://www.divshare.com/download/3741427-049

The Listening - Little Brother
Phonte was right. I'm still teething on "The Listening". But I wouldn't dare bite the Incredible LB. They show exactly why i love them and why they have and will most likely be my favorite group/duo. They delivered raw rhymes, a great beat from 9th & humor. Classic LB shit. What more can you ask from them. Have listened to The Listening & The Minstrel Show makes you appreciate their lastest release "Getback" more and more. This joint is again classic LB...peep it
http://www.divshare.com/download/3741428-ccc

Tight Eyes - Nicolay & Kay feat. Oh No & The Luv Bugz
Dem Damb Jackson! (=Kay & Oh No, real group btw) Anyway this duo of Texas's Kay & Nicolay of Foreign Exchange is unbelievable. After hearing the leak, it made my order to UGHH.com so much more appreciated. Ill have the physical copy by friday & ill order the Bonus track from iTunes. Anyway this song is the one i had stuck in my head since. RSVP blah blah blah.. lol i just mumble the words but great performance from Kay & Luv Bugz while i've heard better from one of my fav MC/Producer Oh No. And remarkable job from Nicolay as usual.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3741430-6df

Move On Up - Kidz In The Hall feat. Mike Payne
Kidz In The Hall are bringing the whole MC/DJ group back to its former fame. Not to diss other MC/DJ joints & etc...but great vibes from Kidz In The Hall. This joint absolutely inspiring. The hook is great. The Lyrical are amazing. Not Much to say especially with a new LP on the horizon. Hope they don't suffer from the Sophomore slump.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3741682-547

Sitting At The Bar - Tanya Morgan
TM having too new joints in the Top ten shows just how much i've been feeling this group. So many simiarities to LB but completly different if that makes any sense. I could probably say TM is my favorite Trio followed by Strange Fruit Project.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3569032-1ec

Q.U.E. Another E.N.S - Consequence
Now wft is a guy from Dallas feeling a track dedicated to Queens? Well its just that dope. They track is banging with tons of bass but not too much to overwhelm. Just the right amount. Really can't wait till Cons next release tho he just drop Dont Quit Your Job last year.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3741683-785

Sleep Walkers - Restoring Poetry In Music (Panacea)
This is maybe the dopest most slept on release of 2007. Seriously Panacea great constantly comparisons to The Roots and even more fitting now with their band having a album together but I think Panacea has their own style & only thing similar to the The Roots is that its all Hip Hop.
http://www.divshare.com/download/3472454-f86

Gone - Chaundon feat. Jean Grae
This is a surprise. I haven't listened to Chaundon's full debut yet but this song caught my eyes so i decided to play it for a little preview of what Chaun is spitting. Definitely no let down so far. So check out his debut & cop it when it releases.

Hip Hop Harbinger.....

I hear it alot from the older people that were in love with Rakim, Public Enemy & etc....that Hip Hop or music in general will never be the same. But i think the Future looks brighter than it ever has well at least for hip hop. You got MCs like Blu, Elzhi, Buff1, Joell Ortiz & Black Milk leading the way. How could you utter such a statement like "hip hop is dead". You got the return of the classic DJ/MC collabo & live instrumentation. Every release i hear from a up & coming MC has been either great, classic or full of potential. Blu made a impact, Elzhi is teasing us with a potential classic & Kay teamed with Nicolay to make the year's 1st (maybe 2nd thanks to Torae) impactful great album. You can't forget about the groups/duos/trios of the new school, Little Brother, Tanya Morgan, Strange Fruit Project, Kidz In The Hall, The Cool Kids & Lightheaded. And the record labels like Qn5, Justus League/Hall Of Justus, Def Jux, Rhymesayer & Stones Throw. The Resurrection of Rawkus records is one of hip hop's most exciting happening recently. The future most famous stars Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Panacea & Lupe Fiasco constantly set the bar higher & remind us exactly why we love what they do.

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

http://www.hiphopdx.com/blogs/ambassador

As much as I find government and political science to be quite interesting, I can’t stand taking classes on the subjects. Why, you ask? Because I don’t have it in me to keep my damn mouth shut. Nine times out of ten, I’ll leave the room all fired up and pissed at the system because some other person in the class decided to argue with me about something and get me all in a political rage. Now, for a half Palestinian girl in today’s society with three-fourths of my government name being quite tricky to pronounce, added to the fact that I live in a very politically volatile area, it’s a misconceived problem when I rant about things like that in public. Especially when I’m walking back to my car sporting my kaffiyeh around my neck (and I don’t mean one of those purple hipster ass joints that Urban Outfitters was selling), only to put the key into the ignition and start blasting some Non Phixion, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Diabolic, Paris, etc., with my windows down while I’m stuck in traffic. Allah forbid that I should come across an interesting looking rock on the sidewalk that I had the urge to pick up, or else I may find myself getting patted down in search of a slingshot. It seems that post 9/11 life is like American Idol for revolutionary minds –

“Randy, yes or no, what do you think?”

“Yo dawg, she dropped it like it was hot when the pressure was on, dawg. She really showed some true passion for what she does. That’s dangerous to the competition. She could take them all. I say yes. This girl could win.”

“Paula, yes or no?”

“That’s a yes from me. She’s so charming and charismatic. The people will love listening to her.”

“Well, that’s two out of three. It looks like you’re on to the next round. Here’s your ticket to Guantanamo!”

One of these days somebody is bound to get the wrong impression. I don’t even think I have to say what that impression might be – you’re probably already thinking it.

“Terrorist”?

Ah, the power of media brainwashing. It’s ok – I’m not holding this against you. I hold this against the regional cable monopolies that control what television channels you’re able to receive. How coincidental is it that those who cannot afford to have hundreds of TV channels or a satellite dish that receives foreign programming are the ones that end up stuck with a small handful of blatantly biased television news sources?* How coincidental is it that it is this same demographic that probably has the most reason to revolt against its leaders, for it is these people that face the harshest realities of the injustices in our society on a daily basis?

If you ask me, it’s not coincidental at all.

This financially imposed technological disadvantage could be argued by an opposing point of view. You could say, “yo, there’s always the public library. You can hit that place up and pick up some books for free to read up on some true knowledge.” Yeah, you can. But thanks to the Patriot Act, that search for true knowledge at the library might just dig your already suspicious looking ass into an even deeper hole. On top of all of that, living in a constant financial struggle is not a simple state of being. Many work excessive hours at minimum wage jobs that tire them out and leave them with little free time. Sitting down to read doesn’t exactly pay the bills or put a hot meal into your kids’ stomachs. It’s like this never-ending trap that people on the lower end of the financial spectrum are seemingly stuck in.

It doesn’t help that public school systems just seem to further the problem, which is even scarier seeing as how the youth (better known as our future) is in their hands. Think about how many overly privileged white kids end up in those “smart” classes. Think about the types of characters that end up on school boards. Think about how much attention and praise the kids who effortlessly do well in school receive, despite the fact that they’re not the ones that truly need that treatment. Think about the children you see as you drive down the streets of the city, and then think of society in 50 years when it’s up to them to be running things. Those same kids that had information that will prove irrelevant to their futures shoved down their throats, in order for them to regurgitate those facts into passing scores on standardized tests so that the school doesn’t lose their federal funding due to the No Child Left Behind concept. And don’t be too sure that the No Child Left Behind program will meet its demise when Bush leaves office – the wording of the title of that program is no accident. What’s the next President going to do? Say, “OK, we can leave some children behind again”? Yeah, that sounds so “politically correct”, doesn’t it?

Meanwhile, a ridiculous amount of money is being poured into programs like Homeland Security. Security? Oh yeah, we’re a lot more secure now. The fact that you can still run up on Capitol Hill with a samurai sword, a bow and arrow, guns, ammo, and some explosive-looking devices is proof of that. It seems as if our government doesn’t have its own finances prioritized correctly. But who am I to talk? After all, I’m just a lowly taxpayer. Far be it from me to be concerned with how the government spends my hard earned money.

Issues such as the aforementioned ones could be listed and explained in a multi-volume book, so let’s get to the point. America achieved its sovereignty by revolution. This country’s independence was achieved by people speaking out, standing up, and fighting for what they believed in. It’s a part of our history. Fast forward a couple hundred years, and this same land is now (and has been) in need of some serious reform once again. The difference between then and now, however, is that these days there has been a sense of fear instilled by the various forms of information technology into the citizens that prevents them from speaking out against what they believe is wrong. I’m shocked when people come up to me after I go off on a verbal tirade in a government class and say “Thank you. You said what I always think but can never bring myself to say.”

Despite what you may have been lead to believe about the definition of what constitutes a possession of “patriotism” is these days, it is not illegal to speak what’s on your mind. It is not illegal to seek truth and understanding. It is not illegal to demand change. Nor are any of the aforementioned actions “unpatriotic”. Quite the contrary. Demanding a stop to injustice, an improved life, and therefore a better country, is to me the highest form of patriotism. Caring enough about the place you live in to put effort into making it safe and just for you, your family, and those that will come after you is nothing but noble. Unite with those around you who share your same ideals for positive change. With unity comes strength, and with that unified strength can come powerful amounts of positive reform. You are doing nothing wrong by speaking out. However be aware that the goals you may possess for the future will require more than speaking. So for those that are able, take part in your communities. Reach out to the youth. Anything. It’s time to stop letting fear control you.

*Seriously. In my personal cable lineup in the past few years, since I don't have that VIP pay channel package and all that bullsh*t that I ironically tried to sell to people during my brief stint as a telemarketer, I've seen numerous stations that broadcast news from other countries taken out of my access. This included an Arabic news channel, a station that broadcast many areas' newscasts such as China, Russia, the Middle East, India/Bangladesh/that whole area, and even BBC. I am left with run of the mill major network news, and of course the 24/7 "news" channels (I say that reluctantly since they seem to consider the A-list celebrity world newsworthy) like CNN, MSNBC, etc. I'm not making this stuff up. Now, if only I could figure out how to get some English subtitles going on in this Dish Network sh*t...

Hip Hop's HERO

HERO gives us two such legendary figures. Introducing artist/producer extraordinaire Darp Malone and the incredible word-smith E-Dot (who has previously worked with Mr. Complex, The Chapter, Loer Velocity and released singles on Ill Bill's Uncle Howie Records). HERO's music is honest and passionate, so wonderfully sincere and effortless.

They have no capes or pantyhose, just soulful ballads and aggressive compositions. Somehow HERO manages to easily combine substance and intricate wordplay with moving melodies and catchy refrains.

Together as HERO, E-Dot and Darp Malone's music utterly transcends time without the abuse of trends and propaganda. Upon first listen one comes to realize that the future is upon us. The time is now, and they are here. Embrace them, witness the conquest; and don't take them for granted. - Matt Conaway

Idle Warship (Talib Kweli + Res)

Welcome to Idle Warship. Idle Warship is Res and Talib Kweli.

Res is a world renowned singer/songwriter from Philadelphia, who has been known to mix all types of genres together to create her own sound. Her voice is the real deal. If you are not a fan of Res, you simply haven't heard her. She released an album on Geffen in 2004 titled How I Do, which is cherished by those who own it. Talib Kweli is one of hip hop's premier artists, known for his ability to create songs that respect hip hop culture but transcend it's boundaries. He is considered one of our best lyricists. Along with classic albums released by his groups Black Star and Reflection Eternal and a 2007 collaboration with Madlib, he has released 3 solo albums, garnering the hits "Get By" and "Hot Thing." Res has appeared on every one of those albums. From "Where Do We Go" (Quality), to "Going Hard" and "We Got the Beat" (Beautiful Struggle), from "Soul Music" (Liberation) to "Everything Man" (Eardrum), Res and Kweli have shown incredible chemistry. Idle Warship started as an idea to make a dance song for fun. It has since morphed into a full blown labor of love, with it's own identity. We no longer control it.

Res and Talib Kweli equal Idle Warship, but Idle Warship does not equal Res and Talib Kweli. Idle Warship is a vehicle of expression, it is a state of mind that creates art that is needed. It is not needed for the world, it is needed for the artist. It is selfish. It is egotistical. It is confused. It is human.

Pop stars, movie stars, celebuglies, this is what we worship. They are beyond royalty, we try to assign a divine quality to them. We prop them up and make sacrifices to them. There are always new deities screaming for our attention, and we dispose of our gods in grand fashion. We tear them to shreds and fight over the scraps like rats on a sinking ship. The Lauryn Hills, Britney Spears and Anna Nicoles of the world were once little girls with dreams. They seem crazy, but I say they are sane reactions to a crazy world.

An Idle Warship sits at the port, waiting for a war that will never be fought. This is who we've become, so empty that we do not participate in activity we are designed for. We are Idle Warships at bay, afraid of the fight on the open seas. This music is the soundtrack for our lives. It is voyeuristic, and it takes you on a journey thru flesh and blood, but the divine is on the other side. We had to come to your world to get you and bring you back to ours.

Kidz In The Hall - The In Crowd Tracklisting + Info

After label jumping from Rawkus to Duck Down, the Kidz in the Hall will release their sophmore LP on April 29th. If you're skeptical, check out Naledge's humble words.

Naledge takes things a step further asserting “The In Crowd is going to solidify us as the best new group in Hip-Hop. Our new album is the re-definition of the Kidz In the Hall sound and our experimentation with artist collaboration. The first album was a lot rawer and showed our potential for greatness, but The In Crowd is our greatness coming to fruition. We went out of our way to create an album that has something for everyone and is air-tight from beginning to end. This is a definite classic for the Hip-Hop lover.”

Who is Tanya Morgan?

Who is Tanya Morgan?

Although the name evokes something of a neo-soul songstress, the music is overtly hip hop. Tanya Morgan is a group comprised of Von Pea and Ilwil (Ilyas and Donwill) - two totally separate acts, with additional production by Brickbeats. Within the span of a year, the collective of four recorded all the material that would become their debut, Moonlighting and go on to be listed in Questlove's Top 10 album of 2006. The tightly knit 13-song set is bound together by the story of a misled record shopper and his unwanted purchase. The albums title is a nod to the fact that Tanya Morgan is really two acts in a group together who are, in a sense, moonlighting on their respective jobs by working with each other. In promotion for this grand opening, the group released two projects: Sunlighting and the Sunset EP. The bandwidth busting download that is Sunlighting plays like a mixtape in a sense yet still showcases the groups personality and presence while the Sunset EP boasts original production by Von Pea and Brickbeats.

But where did Tanya Morgan come from? After landing XXL magazine's Show and Prove section their debut LP Moonlighting was released on Loud Minority Music to much critical acclaim. The album recieved 3.5 mics in the Source magazine, the Chariman's Choice column in XXL magazine, a highly coveted spot in Wax Poetics magazine and several other publications and websites. The video for their second single 'We Be' aired on channels such as MTV Jams, Much Music and hip hops first VJ Ralph McDaniel's television show The Bridge. The group has since played Toronto's NXNE Festival with Dice Raw's new group Noveau Riche and the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival with the likes of Ghostface Killah, Large Professor, Consequence and a host of others. They are also regulars at New Yorks annual CMJ Festival. In addition to attending the 2007 Power Summit in Las Vegas to compete (and subsequently win) Myspace Music/XM's 'Show Us What You Got' Competition and taking home 'Best Music Video' out of a batch of 3 total nominations at the Ohio Hip Hop Awards the group has just wrapped up its second national tour throughout the southeast US and their new song 'Walk This Way' can be found in regular rotation on XM Radio and several college radio stations.

Tanya Morgan will be releasing 3 projects in 2008. Aside from a yet to be named mixtape collaboration with DJ Soul, their official sophomore album 'Brooklynati', will be preceeded by an ep named 'The Bridge' that is meant to not only help familiarize new listeners with their sound but also to serve as an appetizer to the full course meal that is 'Brooklynati'. On 'Brooklynati' fans can expect to find more of the same thing that initially made them fall in love with Tanya Morgan and hip hop in general. But what should newcomers to the sound expect? Simply put they should expect the unexpected. From A Tribe Called Quest to Tha Alkaholiks to Leaders of the New School to The Pharcyde to De La Soul, the comparisons drawn have been numerous however the sound is unmistakeably their own. That sound is energetic music that injects intelligence into fun filled rapid fire lyrical romps.

Panacea/Restoring Poetry In Music

Panacea / Restoring Poetry In Music

Panacea (Consists Of Raw Poetic & K-Murdock, started as a side project for Raw Poetic but gain popularity before their hip hop live band, Restoring Poetry In Music)

Their sound has been described as "A Tribe Called Quest meets Final Fantasy", and some listeners have even made comparisons to The Roots and Outkast. But forget a classification, this is just exceptionally good, unique, and timeless music. Panacea is based out of the Washington DC area where producer K-Murdock, a Maryland native, has provided his fantasy hip-hop soundscapes for soul singers such as Raheem DeVaughn and W. Ellington Felton. Emcee Raw Poetic, a long time resident of Northern Virginia who originally hails from Philadelphia, has been rhyming since the age of 14. His natural, almost conversational flow and signature storytelling lyrics fit perfectly with K-Murdock's soulful and sometimes spacey compositions. Their obvious chemistry is incredibly rare, and favors such accomplished duos as Gangstarr and Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Whether they're in the studio composing music at a prolific rate comparable to legendary jazz pianist Bob James in the 70s, or on stage performing live backed by Virginia-based progressive hip-hop band RPM (www.rpmband.com), Panacea has all musical bases covered!

Restoring Poetry In Music

Restoring Poetry in Music (RPM) was formed late last century by cousins Jason Moore (Raw Poetic) and Marlon Vann (H2A). Toiling in their basement spawned demos and an EP entitled "Transitions," which sparked interest and meetings with record executives, including those at Columbia Records. In these meetings the duo heard the same critique: "You're too Hip-Hop for Rock and too Rock for Hip-Hop." Frustrated, but not discouraged, RPM ignored this limited perception of what modern music should sound and look like and pressed on with their vision of RPM. As they evolved musically, they began doing something that further complicated their definition and classification: they added members; they created a band. Bassist Drew Thomas (known in certain circles by the acronym B.E.S.S) was the first addition. Keyboardist, trumpeter and bassist Aaron Gause (Enron) and classically trained guitarist Patrick Fritz (P-Fritz) soon followed, as did drummer Fred Jackson.

Not long after forming, Fred left to dedicate himself to his university studies. His replacement, Blake Surbey, entered the fold, but was soon replaced by Will Bobbit, an accomplished gospel drummer. In time, co-founding member H2A decided that he too had to part ways with the band. H2A's departure left a considerable void in RPM, but through acquaintance and good fortune, Kyle Murdock (K-Murdock) stepped in and pushed RPM even further into musical experimentation. Over the next three years, RPM played up and down the east coast, creating a name for themselves and opening for such acts as Rahzel, Ozomatli and Little Brother among others, recorded and released the full-length album, Dream Awake, and began work on a follow up album entitled Pyramids in Moscow once again with original producer H2A. During this period, producer K-Murdock and emcee Raw Poetic collaborated on a side-project, a resurrection of one of Murdock's earlier groups, called Panacea. Panacea toured, though not as extensively as RPM, and recorded the full-length album, Thinking Back Looking Forward.

For one reason or another the Panacea project lead to a deal with independent label Glow-In-The-Dark Records, home most notably of Time Machine, in the fall of 2005. At this same time, band dynamics being what they are, RPM imploded. Will Bobbit quit to devote more time to his wife and children, while Drew Thomas moved westward to pursue other artist inspirations. The loss of these members, as well as the initial time demands on Raw Poetic and K-Murdock, as a result of the Panacea project, shook and led RPM to take a hiatus from the scene.

During the fall and winter of 2005 Glow-In-The-Dark Records released Thinking Back Looking Forward as an EP while Panacea continued and finished work on their first full-length for Glow-In-The-Dark Records, "Ink Is My Drink, which was released in the fall of 2006. In the plotting of a more emotive live show, Raw Poetic rounded up surviving RPM members Enron and P-Fritz and reformed RPM to perform as the Panacea band.

RPM is an unsigned 5-piece band with 30 tracks in the works for its second full-length album Pyramids in Moscow. RPM is also the band that plays all of Panaceas music live on stage. Therefore, RPM=Panacea. We are Restoring Poetry in Music (RPM) and Panacea. Much respect and blessings, Raw Poetic RPM, PANACEA
