Artist: Little Brother
Album: Separate But Equal
Song: Can't Let Her
[Phonte]
Uh, uh, I'm still singin
Them Dog Sacks on stage, they still swingin
And even when they try to go hard at us
I'm Joe's Law status, hat low, still leanin
The head nigga in charge is still dreamin
Of an industry where hot shit's rewarded
And dope shit's recorded and dumb shit's ignored
And I, sold my heart to the world, nobody bought it
And, everybody made a B-line
Quick to say that LB was on the decline, hold up - rewind
Wasn't it just a year or so ago
when we was them same niggas that everybody was behind?
But that's how it is when you dealin with the evil
Get a little status and they think you too regal
That's the nature of people
Why you think muh'fuckers like to feed pigeons but try to shoot eagles?
And if you too feeble you won't make it, I admit
sometimes I thought about walkin away from this bitch
Cause we been fuckin around for too damn long
But she too damn young and I'm just too damn grown
And it feels like she laughin at me
I can't be mad cause she wanna shake her laffy taffy
I coulda took my degree and used my business savvy
But won't do cause I am so happily unhappy witchu
I can't let her...Some might disagree but that Drama/Little Brother tape called Seperate But Equal is my favorite project from them. Those songs are all classic. I played the shit out of them. Also this was my first taste of Little Brother. This song is classic LB.

My First Love Of Music...Hip Hop

The first hip-hop I remember quoting is Tupac's Hail Mary which released when I was only 7. Song was deep and though I didn't know what the song was talking bout 11 years ago. It gave me a dark deep scary feeling that seem to dance on my in the top of my chest. I remember when Pac dead I was watching Showtime At The Apollo with my older cousin. And Snoop was performing I believe.
I really didn't realized what happened but I knew it was big.
Now I'm not going lie and say I was born listening to KRS, Rakim & shit. But basically I've always liked Hip-Hop but whatever was on the radio that is what I listened to. My first album that I owned was bought by my step-father as a gift and its was Jay-Z's Blueprint. Clean version of course though I knew his hit single "H to Izzo" and past works like Big Pimpin', Hard Knock Life & Jigga My Nigga. But besides those I knew nothing about Jay-Z. Then I copped the Black Album then shortly after College Dropout.
Soon after I opened my music view to Trae, Lil' Wayne, Z-Ro & T.I. basically alot of southern music. Then my cousin from the Chi told me about a group called Little Brother. I got that feeling that I got when I first heard Hail Mary, Blueprint & College Dropout. I got this feeling that made me want more so further explored and kept taking advice and exploring new music & artist to make the person I am now......an Music Lover

Verse Of The Day: Who Got The Props?
Artist: Black Moon
Album: Enta Da Stage
Song: Who Got Da Props?
One Mississippi, two mississippi
Sucker tried to diss me so I played him like a hippie from the 60's
But I'm a get paid from the 90's
Quick to play you Little Rascals out like Stymie
Kicking flavor, with my life saver techniques
Guaranteed to move feets and I go on for weeks
Maybe years if my peers give me ears to fill
Lick off a shot and act ill, parlay and chill
See I paid my dues, now you can't tell me nothing
This is dedicated to the ones who kept fronting
The ones who tried to diss and play high? Oh no
Just cause you had low, see now I got dough
And I'm paid out my rectum, meaing my backbone
Grab the mic, flip a mad script to your dome
Suckers, I kick 'em like tae kwon do
Yes and low, from head to toe to let you know
Some straight classic material from the underrated Black Moon. Buck has changed and matured so much its crazy to see the difference.

This Is My Song...And No Can Take It Away
This is my songWhen I first heard "I Wonder" from Kanye West's Graduation album. I instantly fell in love with the beginning sample and wondered who exactly it was and where it's from. Well after some reasearch I found out and I found the mp3 over at "Kevin Nottingham". This song is getting alot of attention due to Kanye's sample of it. The song is My Song by Labi Siffre from his Crying Laughing Loving Lying LP. The entire album is something every music listener would enjoy.
And no one can take it away
It's been so long, but now you're here,
here to stay
And I wonder if you know what it means
To find your dreams come true
Here are the lyrics if you'd like to sing along....and the mp3.
Labi Siffre - My Song
This is my song
And no one can take it away
It's been so long, but now you're here,
here to stay
And I wonder if you know what it means
To find your dreams come true
This is my song
And no one can make it a lie
It's been so long since someone
Could make me cry
And I wonder if you know what it means
To laugh as tears go by
I may not always sing in tune
And sometimes you don't hear me
But you don't have to be near me
To know that I'm singing
This is my song
And nothing can make it die
It's been so long and it's stronger
I know why
And I wonder if you really, really know
That as long as I live I will sing my song for you

Verse Of The Day: Live In The Sky
Artist: T.I. f/ Jamie Foxx
Album: King
Song: Live in the Sky
My cousin Tu ain't have to die, right in front of his son and his wife
He lost his life struggling over a gun
Give a damn what he done, that's my muhfuckin folk
And I love that nigga to death, no muhfuckin joke
I can feel my eyes fillin, the Lord is my witness
If I catch him, I'mma kill him, I made it my business
Back in the day, you stayed in my business
Taught me I ain't have to incorporate yay in my business
Coincidentally, that's why today you not wit me
My cousin died over some yay, and I miss him
Plus he at his family house, let's say she the eye witness
But her boyfriend did the shootin, judge gave a life sentence
I heard that, now I'm dressed up in all black
Shot up the whole apartment, she still ain't brought back
The best friend I had in Jamel, I lost that
Guess ya death was a lesson in life, it taught me that

Wow I've been looking all weekend to find out something more about this album. Finally i got my news and this is shaping up to be one of the best albums this year. He definitely picked the right tracks off Europass for this album. All of them are my favs off that tape but hell that tape was so dope all of it was my fav in a way. Anyway everything looks good except I really want to hear the rest of the Rules Of Rap snippet. This album has also been pushed back to Aug 12th and all tracks except the ones noted are produced by Black Milk. But maybe its under a different name anyway the Midwest is on fire this year. But it don't stop there.....

05 Man Up feat. Vaughan T

16 Once
Another dope release I'm looking for to buying. I'm currently reviewing this album and it's dope as hell. Nothing less was except from Buff1 who's solo debut turned many heads. I won't give any details cept its dope.
and here is what Buff told Scheme Mag about a couple of track off the album....(continue under that theres more news folks)
"Beat the Speakers Up" - This track came from the brilliant mind of Vaughan T, my Athletic Mic League (AML)/Lab Tech brother. He told me he had a beat and hook for me, he just laid it out and I did the easy part and wrote the verses and the end/outro hook. We knew as soon as it was done that this was the first single/video. I like it because its concept is anti radio programming but it's also very catchy and radio-friendly at the same time. That's how we do around here, we like to challenge people's thoughts of what they think hip-hop should be, but still keep it very hip hop, haha! The hook is catchy but it's also 16 bars long, which is almost unheard of. I also decided to do something I haven't done in ages and that's spit a lot of similes. I was getting my Lil Wayne on, haha! I think I said the word "like" in this song more than I did on my last album and the last two AML albums combined! As a group, we kinda tried to stray away from that as we grew and developed as emcees but it was fun to revisit when we first started emceeing back in the day.
"Classic Rap" - Another Vaughan T beat. When I heard the beat, it sounded like some classic rock stuff, so I thought it was appropriate to flip it on some classic rap stuff. I know everybody does songs where they pay homage to all their influences (i.e. The Game's "Pain") but I wanted to do it differently. I wanted to show that I really studied the game like it was a college course. Almost to the point of being a nerd, haha! I just had the first couple lines in my head and I just thought, "Why not use everybody's real name?" That way you see how deep it gets with me and hip-hop and you can also get a glimpse of the artist when they first started out and how their careers are somewhat intertwined.
"Numbers Can't Measure" ft. Now On - This is a 14KT beat. Eight times out of ten, I get inspired to write from the beat. This beat just sounded like trying and struggle to me. It also kinda reminded me of the song "For U" from my last album how the sample was cut up. So that's the approach I took when writing. I wanted it to be like "For U" but in a different direction, saying, "This is for those that didn't really support me, and thanks for the hate," haha! Now On wasn't even sure they wanted to be on it because when laid my verse down it sounded so personal, but like I said, we like doing things a little different and unconventional around here so that's why I wanted them on it, because people wouldn't expect a guest appearance on a song so personal. KT had already named the beat "Numbers Can't Measure" before I got it so I figured it was a fitting name for the song, kinda saying to critics that my music is my life so you can't really rate it. Only God can judge me so your rating system for your website or magazine is cool, but at the end of the day I'm still gonna be me and do what I do.
"Real Appeal" ft. Ab - I had this song idea in my head. I told KT that I wanted a beat that was raw, just drums and a bassline. Something to break your neck to. We were in the lab talking about one of our favorite artists who was really inspiring us at the time so we threw her album on (hint hint) and was listening to it. He said it was a song of hers he really wanted to sample, so he did! Right there on the spot. I wasn't 100% convinced on it at first because a) her album was barely two years old at the time, and b) it needed to be touched up a little. But once he touched it up and replayed the bassline with a live bass, it was a wrap. I knew I wanted to do something sexy, since I'm grown, and have been grown for a while now, haha! I wanted to see if I could get away with sexy. I knew I needed a male vocalist since we never really had that on a track before aside from us singing ourselves and because I was talking to all my lay-teeeeees! Haha! I wrote the hook, hollered at my man Ab who was working with KT and everybody and they mama at the time. I asked him to lend us his talents and the rest is history.
"Goin' Nowhere" - This one is simple, classic hip-hop, classic AML. KT had the beat; I knew this would be the group joint. We didn't wanna do anything pretty or on the feel good vibe. We just wanted to do it how we did it when we first started, straight spit! We didn't care how long it was or if the hook was catchy or nothing. Straight looped the beat the whole way through, 6 minutes of spit, "Triumph" style, haha!
Also time to dispell the confusion about Janelle Monae's new album. First, her official debut album is not releasing on Aug 12th but it is coming soon. On Aug 12th, the official version of Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition). The one that many of you may have was released by Janelle before she was signed to Bad Boy. So this is where you support her as this Special Edition EP will feature two new bonus songs on top of the ones previously released & the iTunes version will feature will feature all those tracks, a 1 exclusive iTune joint & a exclusive album cover. The iTunes joint's name hasn't been released but here is what the non-iTunes EP looks like...
1. "March of The Wolfmasters"2. "Violet Stars Happy Hunting!"
3. "Many Moons"
4. "Cybertronic Purgatory"
5. "Sincerely, Jane"
6. "Smile"
7. "Mr. President"
Janelle also has a "short film" coming for Many Moons & Violet Stars Happy Hunting!
Also according Pacfic Division on a exclusive interview. They have a new blendtape called "Role Players" and its features Swift D, 9th Wonder, DJ Khalid, Blu and surely more....
and Finally......Gym Class Heroes - The Quilt tracklisting & cover...

01. "Guilty As Charged" [ft. Estelle]
02. "Drnk Txt Rmeo" [ft. Patty Crash]
03. "Peace Sign/Index Down" (ft. Busta Rhymes)
04. "Like Father, Like Son (Papa's Song)"
05. "Blinded By the Sun"
06. "Catch Me If You Can"
07. "Cookie Jar" (ft. The-Dream)
08. "Live a Little"
09. "Don't Tell Me It's Over"
10. "Live Forever (Fly With Me)" (ft. Daryl Hall)
11. "Kissin' Ears"
12. "Home"
13. "No Place to Run"
14. "Coming Clean"
Everythings looks straight on this album. Gym Class has tweak their song and I'm feeling it so far. They sound more like a live band now. And they have a bigger sound while Travis flexes his lyrical strength. So I dropped a massive post of news, tracklisting & my thoughts on each....only time will tell the result of each project.

Verse Of The Day: A Quick 16

Artist: Nyoil
Album: HoodTREASON: The Warm Up Album
Song: A Quick 16
[Nyoil]
I'm about to drop a quick 16, y'knahmean?
Ounce after ounce, 'til the pound is bounced
And I'ma work that block and pound it out
And though my ears ring out with resounding doubt
I was down and out and now I'm 'bout it, 'bout
'Bout to shout it out, I got that - copped that
And if the cops cop then I'ma cop a plea
And if the plea don't see me free then I'll plead
On my hands and knees and beg God please to stop that!
You see these pigs turn wolves to rats, and while these dogs chase cats
These cats forget where they gangsta's at
See I was gon' drop a quick 16 on 'em
And and though I was wishin to do a little snitchin
My 16 wasn't convincin plus the D.A. had a bad day with a mind for convictin
I only wanted to sell a bit and celebrate
But I'm celibate behind bars and gates
Try to monkey around in the yard with weights
But them gorillas heard I turned state's
I better drop a quick 16 on 'em
But but my verses was worthless
Nouns, verses, verbs is nervous
Mean, I'm talkin things, persons and places
To Action Jacksons with scar faces
Who spit straight razors and turn boxsprings into erasers
They fixin to drop 16 on me
And before they let go, I tried to scream for the C.O.
But the C.O., he ain't see so~!
Well, I think you know how the rest go
And that's my 16 {*applause*}

Something great you missed in 07'
You ever listen to an album and be like,"Damn,When the hell did this come out!!!" ?....
I found myslef saying this while hearing Transitions and just being in a state of overall enjoyment.Arts the Beatdoctor is a very jazzy producer who comes from The Netherlands with a unique sound that you just can't deny and to be honest,I don't really know that much more about him, His music really speaks for him. From his myspace description,You kinda get a feel for his personality.....
Residents in the area of Hilversum, The Netherlands, have reported seeing a certain shady figure lurking about the local hospital. This individual is dressed in some sort of freakish doctors’ attire, including coat, stethoscope and a scalpel the size of a small sword. It’s rumored that he has been able to infiltrate the medical staff, referring to himself as ‘a new kind of medical expert’ called a ‘Beatdoctor’. All that is known so far is that he goes about the hospital, indiscriminately prescribing unhealthy doses of cinematic, dark and melancholic hip-hop beats to unsuspecting patients. When confronted with these reports, the medical staff has been quick to distance itself from the practices of this shadowy individual, describing his brand of medicine as ‘unusual’, ‘evocative’, and in some cases even ‘dangerous’. The point of his experimental treatments, and the side-effects they might have for his test subjects have seen rampant speculation from keen observers in the field. Now it seems his plans can finally be revealed…
Transitions is a super smooth LP that was released in 2007 that is sure to shake heads up with its almost organic pace. While having some MC's spit on a few tracks, Where this album really shines is in the instrumental joints, Songs that will straight have you vibing with them.
As you can tell,I like this album alot. I'm sure you will to if you give it a listen,But hey why listen to a lowly islander?...Listen for yourself. Think for yourself.

Verse Of The Day: Yoko Ono

Artist: Danny! f/ Che Grand
Album: And I Love H.E.R.: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Song: Yoko Ono
[Verse 1: Che Grand]
Listen
My mind work a little different
I can see the vivid in the most vague description
Try not to be a hypocrite
Everything can kill you, don't smoke cigarettes
Binge quick the dollar menu
Folk crazy hate you in the same vein they shootin' heroin in
That's why either way, I don't listen
The point you've been missin'? I'm hot
You strugglin' like tryin' to warm a mansion
With a stove in the kitchen
It might happen with a little bit of patience
A case of pneumonia, whole lot of prayin'
European euphoria, I need a Desparate Wife
Like a Eva Longoria, I can see the whore in ya
Huh, and your gimmicks is fresh hardly
Pardon me, my interest is to get that money
Fuck being in the Concrete Loop and makin' buddies
That's a buddy with a female anatomy and she's smutty
The answer is Grizzy, the question is what's really better
Than your average backpacker doin' a lot of chatter?
Who want a lot of cheddar, it's not for flossin'
My whole fam got a gift that need endorsin'
So I'm takin' a portion and givin' it back
Other than that I'm fixin' to throw some D's on the 'Lac
Desalena Pass, we can talk when I get back
Cook a little more audio crack
"Grand" tatted on the small of her back, and Danny she like that
(She like that?) She like that Danny, she like that
(She like that?) She like that Danny, she...

Grand Damn Neezy!

Che Grand out of Brooklyn, NY. Now an affiate with Tanya Morgan has caught some dim light of attention. After releasing the Fixtape he create some buzz mostly from those already familiar with TM, Kay, SFP, Spec Boogie & so on. He also has a EP called The Official Bootleg Import EP which flew under many radars (even mine for a while). The EP is a great doormat to the house Che's creativity. With bangers like Gold Chains, Trainspottin & Naija Interval (Turned Out). Che gives a little snippet of what is to expect for his debut album, Everything's Good Ugly.
With singles like uptempo Swing & hyped Crash how could anyone overlook this album. Yet with a release date. Che has released a few more songs. Girl Talk a real retro smooth type joint almost indescribable and Gift Wrap a lyrical kick in the neck. Both are definite head nodders. With guest verses with Tanya Morgan, Danny!, Spec Boogie & others the anticipation grows even more. Hopefully EGU will release soon as it is sure to make major waves in the indie water that is sure to catch a few glances from the mainstream.
Che was recently added to URB's Next 1000. So be sure to vote for him. HERE..
also Che Grand, Wale & Blu to be rocking the same show.....next to the legendary Go-Go band, UCB.
check it if you in the area...

Verse Of The Day: Rising Up
Artist: The Roots f/ Wale, Chrisette Michele
Album: Rising Down
Song: Rising Up
Hip-Hop ain't dead cuz the pulse is in us
I got the Everclear flow, they mimosa with it
We are the hope of the culture, they supposed to listen
And I'm supposed to pivot like I'm a forward in the league, I'm Oden with it
Yet don't owe them niggas nothing but potent lyrics
But if you ain't got the dance they revoke your spinning
So good rappers ain't eating they Olsen twining
But I'm so committed, they have grown familiar
With the counterfeit hitters they so-so with it, but they are Sosa with it.
They Mark McGuire with the written, I'm Rodriguez
On the road to riches this is the fork I'm hitting
This is the trial and error era no co-defendant
I push The Seed every time like I'm Cody with it
I said the one-hit wonders pneumonia to us
I don't know you niggas, hit the road my nigga

The Leak #29: Africa feat. D'Angelo
Leak 29 - Mickey Factz feat. D'Angelo - Africahttp://www.zshare.net/audio/14983668aba6824e/
As an Artist, not a Rapper, we're obligated to express our opinions on different topics that affect us in some way shape or form. This song is no different. With the help of D'angelo, I bring the soul and love back to the Motherland. Gotta love the culture.
Before I drop the link, I want it to be known that Leak #32 will be decided by the fans. Please submit a concept via video or email to Leak32@gfcny.com and the best one will get translated thru music.
Songs pretty dope. Every week Mickey seems to surprise me more and more. Some call him a hipster but what hipster making songs like this and "I'm Sean"? Mickey is no hipster, people brand him that due to his appearance. Plus wtf is a hipster anyway? Never understood that term.
